Music

The music ministry of Mikado exists to exalt the name of Christ, encourage our congregation of believers, and point the unsaved to Christ. Our desire is to worship God through music that is worthy of His great name and endeavor to make His praise glorious.

 Worship

Our worship services give each believer the opportunity to exercise their biblical responsibility to individually offer up sacrifices of praise to God. We commonly refer to this New Testament teaching as the priesthood of the believers (1 Peter 2:9). We are careful to avoid elevation of performance or glorification of performers; our primary purpose is to exalt Christ. Our congregational music includes hymns, gospel songs, and choruses that glorify God and prepare us for His word. Our style is conservative with a fresh blending of new music as well as time-honored favorites. In addition to congregational worship, believers can worship through the Mikado Choir, the Mikado Orchestra, and various ensembles and soloists.

 Choir & Orchestra

Led by Pastor James Koerts, the Mikado Choir leads the congregation in heart-felt praise to God in all Sunday worship services. The choir rehearses each Wednesday from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. in Palmer Hall. Additional rehearsals are scheduled for special events such as Christmas at Mikado, Freedom Sunday, and Resurrection Sunday. Child care is available for all rehearsals. If God has led you to be a part of this dynamic ministry, please see Pastor Koerts to arrange an interview.

Our orchestral ensemble is a growing and vital part of the music ministry. The orchestra accompanies the congregation in worship on Sundays, as well as provides special music during the services. Rehearsals are each Wednesday at 8:20 p.m. in the auditorium. If you are interested in joining this dynamic ensemble, please see Pastor Koerts for an interview.

 Children's Music

The children are an important part of the ministry at Mikado, and in this is no exception in the field of music. Our children are given opportunities to participate in special programs throughout the year. Children are able to learn songs during their regularly scheduled service times, and eventually minister them during a church service.

 Special Programs

Each year the music and drama department of Mikado Baptist Church join to produce at least two major works. Christmas at Mikado is a great time of fellowship and wonder as we reflect on the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. At Easter, we celebrate Christ's resurrection at our annual Resurrection Sunday. Freedom Sunday is typically held around the fourth of July, and often contains a cantata or special program, in addition to church-wide activities.

Most fifth Sunday evenings, our congregations celebrates the Lord's Table with a special Lord's Table Service. These unique, dimly-lit services provide a peaceful and quiet time of reflection as the church musicians and drama personnel focus our attention on our Savior's sacrifice for each of us. As a local church, we are given the opportunity to reflect and rejoice as we participate in communion.
